+ Joe Antonini
On his 51st birthday, revisit Wes Anderson’s dreamiest onscreen style moments: Few filmmakers understand that clothes maketh the character better than Wes Anderson. The Texas-born auteur, who turned 51 this year, is a figure beloved by designers and filmgoers alike, with his eclectic, whimsical take on costumes evident from his breakout film, 1998’s Rushmore, onward.
+ Liam Hess
Wes Anderson: In a world of his own: To his fans, Wes Anderson's idiosyncratic films are things of wonder. Detractors, however, consider the Texan director's style fussy and mannered. Will his latest, The Grand Budapest Hotel, help settle the argument?
+ Tom Lamont
The Wes Anderson style explained: What is the Wes Anderson style? Is it a mixture of vintage tchotchkes, droll repartee, and houndstooth? Well … yes, but there’s more to it than that, a lot of which has generally gone unnoticed.
+ SC Lannom
Bar Luce: Designed by the American film director Wes Anderson in 2015, Bar Luce recreates the atmosphere of a typical Milanese cafè. As explained by Anderson, “the approach I used to design this bar is exactly the opposite I usually use for the set designs of my movies. I tried to make it a bar you’d like to go to five times a week. When I was really young I wanted to be an architect, and this chance I’ve been given to pretend to be a real one is a childhood fantasy come true!”.

Though he has yet to win an Oscar (despite seven nominations, and counting), Wes Anderson is largely considered one of today’s most influential filmmakers.
To ensure that his character maintained his limp in The Darjeeling Limited, Owen Wilson stuck a lime in his shoe.
Bill Murray ended up working on Rushmore at scale with the Screen Actors Guild day rate minimum for smaller indie film projects. Anderson estimated that Murray made about $9000 for his work on the film.

I still get a little teary-eyed every time I see the end of Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. The moment in the submarine, where Sigur Ros's Staralfur plays. In my view the best work Wes Anderson ever did.
